Tonido can be started from the command line (e.g. in an SSH session), and I can connect with a browser to my remote file system - that’s cool! And there’s a Tonido app for Android, which is even more cool (is this possible?). Using Tonido, I can connect from Linux to Windows and vice versa, and from Android to both of them - which is cool cool cool. I can tunnel Tonido traffic through SSH, so I don’t need to expose my Tonido server to the Internet. On the other hand, I can connect to the Tonido network and get access to my data from virtually everywhere, using just a browser - w/o any tunneling or VPN. I have been searching for a personal cloud/nas option for years. over the years for my small visual/media arts business i\’ve tried so many offline/online backup solutions ive lost count. tonido is it. you have everything down, the hardware is tight so far, it simply works. but the apps. sweet lord. the idea of a simple hardware device with a suite of cloud apps offered so much promise, just amazing. but they simply suck folks, im sorry. there is not enough space here to tell you the details of what is wrong with each app from a user perspective. fitness (doesnt event start), jukebox (i not a itunes fan but it simply does not compete), money (i would love a money management app, but this thing is useless at the moment), thots (huh?), workspace (ask my clients and assistants to download another app just to work with me when they easily use googledocs?). webshare is the only usable app, and a important one for my business currently, but still confusing at times.
im hoping you make it through. the core ideas are amazing here, the possibilities for your products to make my life easier are so there. please dont **** it up. - Sad Feedback
Our Response: We understand all our applications are not stellar. But we are improving the apps in every Tonido update. The key thing here is to have product framework that allows multiple apps and seamless update of apps. Eventually we will reach there.
We are happy to launch our Next Generation plug server- TonidoPlug2 . It is the least power consuming plug server in the market. There is nothing else like TonidoPlug2 out there when it comes to power saving. The chipset draws only 1.2 watt/hr and will cost approximately cost a dollar to run 365 days.

TonidoPlug2 includes Wi-Fi b/g/n and a built-in SATA 2.5” enclosure. Finally you can put your plug in the closet or behind your entertainment center without wires running around. With the new SATA enclosure, you can have a complete, standalone NAS.
TonidoPlug2 form factor is similar to your portable USB hard drives. Plug in to your power socket or place it on your table or take it with you in your Laptop bag and conquer the world.

Continuing the theme of mobile goodness, we, at CodeLathe, are proud to announce that the next generation of Tonido app for iPhone is now available on Apple Appstore.
This update supercharges the app by adding brand new functions and significantly improves earlier functions. And as always it is free!

Tabbed interface with search function:
The new explorer interface has been upgraded and now has thumbnail view,
Search functions etc has been added.
Clicking the detail button (on each row) shows the details regarding the file or folder and the various actions available for that item.
You can see the usual suspects such as “Share“, “Upload photo“, “Create new folder” etc in the action menu plus some new actions have made an appearance in the action menu, namely, “Add to favorites” and “Download to Phone”

The App can now access the Tonido Favorites feature and retrieve the files and folder that have been tagged as favorites
Updated Photo viewing
The photoviewer of the app has been overhauled and now provides thumbnail views and full screen views photograph with swipe and double tap support.
Over the air transfer of content to the device and access it offline
One of the most exciting features of this release is the ability download files or files of a folder to the device and access it offline! Simply access the detail view of a file or folder and tap the “Download file or folder” option to store it locally! Now that file can be accessed without network! Furthermore, you can also add files to Tonido app using iTunes by dragging and dropping.
Ability to launch downloaded documents with different applications (for example pdf files can be opened with iBooks)
One of the most requested feature is here! Downloaded files can be launched with other installed iOS application. Simply tap the “action” button on the preview page of a file to launch the list of compatible application to launch!
New Music player interface
New music player that is capable of playing files over the network or the files that are saved to the device is now available in the App.
Background play, Locked mode play etc are available as standard ofcourse!
Settings menu added to provide information of the service and control music streaming quality
Network access of songs can be problematic in spotty network conditions. Never fear, you can control the compression quality of the song being streamed over the network (This option was available in the earlier avatar of this app but was simply not well known to users). Files that are already downloaded to the device will be played at full quality of course.
Also, Automatic network detection and use LAN IP in local networks for fast access is now active. This means, if you are connected in same network as the Tonido server, then local IP will be used instead of the relay in which data travels all over the world before reaching your phone

All this functionality is provided free of course without any sort of catch. No Ads, No “use X times a month”, No fee and No Gimmicks.
We, however, do ask you to add reviews and ratings to the Appstore and let us know your feedback on how we can improve the app via our Forums.

NOTE: Tonido software on Desktop or TonidoPlug should be updated to a version above 2.25.
You can’t use this new Android App with older versions of Tonido on your Desktop or plug.
Favorites are great way to have quick access to important files and also to create playlists. Once you have created a playlist, selecting a song in the playlist will continuous play the songs in that playlist.
‘Download’ in the menu will give an option to select folders or files to be downloaded. When you select a folder to download, the app downloads all the files in that folder. You can even select favorite folders to be downloaded. Downloads would continue as along as the app is open. If the app is closed, all the current downloads would be canceled.
‘Download status’ page shows all the current downloads and their status.’ Cancel downloads’ button clears all the current downloads. ‘ Cancel downloads’ doesn’t impact already downloaded files.
You can browse downloaded files and folders when you are offline by clicking on “downloaded files” in the login page. If you are logged in, you can browse files by selecting “Downloaded Files” icon in the start page. Also, you can use native app to browse to /sdcard/tonido/download.
When your Android device and Tonido device are connected on same LAN, Tonido Android app would try to use local ip to download and data transfer, which would increase overall download performance.
You will see this icon when Android app is using local ip.
